She, Sir

I introduce you to some new music from Austin, Texas, She, Sir. Three guys, three years in the making, and now “Who Can’t Say Yes” out this fall. I was able to get a mini interview from the band so we could all take a closer look into the band, the album, and the Austin music scene. Read some more, and pick up a couple mp3’s below.

DAN: Tell me a little bit more about the album. You mentioned it has taken around 3 years to get everything together, how was that experience?

M. Grusha She, Sir: Long and tedious. First it was a matter of finishing school. Then we attempted to record an EP in Minneapolis, but we ended up shelving the problem due to production concerns. After all the time and money we have put into this, it feels great to finally have the CDs in hand.

DAN: What were some of the influences that went into the creation of this album and all your music?

M. Grusha She, Sir: Brian Wilson was a huge influence on the recording and creative process. A lot of bands have influenced the way that we view sound: My Bloody Valentine, the Cocteau Twins, Echo & the Bunnymen, and the Zombies, to name a few.

DAN: How is the Austin music scene? Any local bands you guys into?

M. Grusha She, Sir: Despite having lived here a full year, we haven’t had much time to take in the local scene. We’re still complete newcomers here. Of the acts we *have* seen, we really enjoyed For Those Who Know, Ringo Deathstarr, and the Black Angels.

DAN: What is your favorite album(s) right now?

M. Grusha She, Sir: “Pet Sounds” by the Beach Boys

DAN: Favorite thing to do in Austin? Any places to make sure and visit?

M. Grusha She, Sir: We’ve had a ton of great food in Austin. There’s an abundance of quality restaurants and music venues. If I had one minor complaint, it would be that Austin seems to be lacking in terms of African cuisine. I’m hoping that this next year will afford us more leisure time to see the sights.
