The B-52’s FUNPLEX

written by: DAN
the b-52’s

I haven’t heard “The B-52’s” in years. Do you remember singing along to that one song right…? LOVE SHACK BABY YA LOVE SHACK or something like that. Anyways, I mildly shocked to find out they are coming out with a new album this month. “FUNPLEX” is due out March 25th and it’s being marketed as “the first record of the 21st century from The B-52s!” hahah awesome. Lets get one thing straight, I’m young, I remember listening to them when I was 15 or so… who knows. “Love Shack” practically always played on the radio and I watched the video a handful of times. I remember thinking they looked kinda old then so you know they’ve aged a bit more over the past 10 + years… but they’re back in the game! I say good for them and I’m sure they still have a large fan base.

Here’s a quote for good measure on the album,

“It’s loud, sexy rock and roll, with the beat pumped up to hot pink,” says guitarist Keith Strickland.

The only problem I have with that quote is the “sexy” part. I’m sorry that I’m not sorry but those chicks are old, and I’m not a cougar hunter.

One last note, there is a REMIX EP out that I’ll try to get my hands on soon featuring CSS, Peaches and Scissor Sisters.

SXSW 08 - 763 mp3s reviewed

written by: DAN

Paul Ford over at The Morning News does not mess around when it comes getting reviews done. Best of all - his system is great, everything in six or so words and anywhere from one to five circles. My favorite is the one circle aka “Kill Me.” if you listen to alot of different music you totally feel that one.

There is lots of music to go over so dig right in: Six-Word Reviews of 763 SXSW Mp3s

sxsw 2008

written by: DAN

So SXSW is in full force this week. Bringing millions of hipsters, douches, techies, and also a bunch of regular people to Austin Texas. I’m not there this year, again. For the past 4 years I’ve told myself - “I gotta go to South By Southwest this year.” It hasn’t happened yet. I’ll eventually make it out there probably after I finish up college sometime around a year.

If you read music blogs, I know that there is alot of people taking blogging about it so go find yourself some of that action. For myself, I don’t want to read what I’m missing so I’ll skip that part.

To all that are at SXSW, I envy you.

We Are Scientists - After Hours video

written by: DAN

“After Hours” is the latest single off of We Are Scientists second full-length album - “Brain Thrust Mastery” which drops here in the U.S on Tuesday March 17. If you didn’t know W.A.S has been one of my favorite bands for awhile now. I can’t help it, sometimes it’s an addiction. The first time I heard the song it’s definitely W.A.S style, just a little more polished. You can definately tell they’ve learned alot from the exposure off their first album, “With Love and Squalor.”

As for this video, it is one of the many directed by Akiva of SNL Digital Short fame. Before that he, Jorma, and Andy made skits and music videos and posted on thelonelyisland.com. See all of Akiva’s music videos here.

Overall the video is good but I’m not as into it as previous videos such as Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt but it does have a hot chick in it and some fighting.

Grab some MP3’s and checkout what I’ve written on them in the musicglob archive.

As for the record, I haven’t yet fully constructed my opinion and will be writing on that soon. What do you guys think?

Returning to the Glob

written by: DAN

I’ll take this time to officially say, “I’m Back” (mostly). I am still tons behind my email so I barely know what’s even going on right now but check out the new site design!? Lets talk about a few things to catch you up…

Notes about Musicglob now:
For a very long time I’ve wanted to build alot of things into MusicGlob. Mostly alot of things I realized not one person can handle. Blogs today (and back when I started the MusicGlob in 2005) have alot of potential and ease to build pretty much as big as you want. Me, I’ve always wanted to GO BIG! Especially with MusicGlob, I always felt there are no limits if you set your mind to achieve something you can achieve that goal. Well I had to pay bills and alot of other projects came up that snatched away my time from music and this blog. Well I’m no less busy, but rearranging my priorities to fit in what I want to fit in.

New Features:
The biggest addition to Musicglob is THE WIRE. No, not the tripwire (which has been o one of my longtime favorites) but the new MusicGlob WIRE. It’s that top right section with some titles… they are linked directly to/from wire.musicglob.com so you can have easy access to all kinds of content.

The MusicGlob WIRE is basically my mini-blog for ANYTHING & EVERYTHING music related to post that I get a hold of. I get alot of news and promo stuff all the time from different outlets and don’t always write about them because I’ve always been picky on the glob. Well I’m not picky on the WIRE. There’s mp3’s, videos, concerts, and random other bits. It’s still growing right now and I’ll be posting alot of stuff from the last month or two soon to get up to date.

There are a few other miscellaneous updates to the site but I’m taking things nice and slow for now… kinda easily jumping in if that makes sense. Soon to come hopefully CD Reviews, better show calendar, other stuff?

Thanks again to all who read, have read, just started reading, bands, friends, and teh internets.

Let me know what you think of the new design of drop me a line if you see any big problems.

Gotta love the old graphics.

WELL… I don’t know, but I’m finding out right now.

Here’s what I predict will happen.

  • I’ll use the handy “2 minute rule” per email
  • SWEET! 8000 minutes! According to Google, that is roughly 133 hours!
  • get aggrevated…
  • delete ALOT of email…
  • respond to some
  • get fed up
  • archive / delete everything over a month old
  • whew…
  • time to redesign…. AGG

Also, I am glad to say I finally made it out to a show. I’ve been absent for the past many months yet made it out to Spaceland for The Pity Party’s FREE Monday night residency. AWESOME, to the max. Saw alot of old friends including JAX, Becca, and Kevin from Division Day. Good times all around.

I know I say I’m doing stuff here at musicglob, and I am… it’s just little by little.

I have no idea how old or new it is but I like it. Well I’ve always liked Cut Copy.

Watch Cut Copy - Lights and Music at LifeLounge

Keep an eye out for a little redesign here. I’m scaling back on “acutal blogging” and we’ll be doing shorter posts because it’s time to get the glob going again.

yep, on hiatus

written by: DAN

Obviously I’ve been on a blogging hiatus for the past I don’t even know how many months. I’ll be honest, I got burned out. A few other opportunities came my way and I decided to take them and let my music blogging passion slip by the way side.

I apologize to all the readers, bands, media editors for my lack of responding to your emails. I have rarely checked for the past months and am quite stressed to wonder how many unread emails I have.

THE FUTURE:
There is still a future for musicglob. This has been my hobby and passion for over 2 years and I love all the bands and people I’ve met. It’s been an amazing time and it’s not over yet. I have all kinds of plans for this website and I’m going to put a tentative deadline for 2008. In all reality new musicglob will be up and running later in January 2008.

It’s just the way it goes on the internet and in life, sometimes you can’t stick with things - even if you love them.

Thanks again and have a great Holiday season and I’ll see you all in 2008. Oh yeah it’s going to be a good one. You know how I know, I just turned 23 on the 23rd this month… going to be my golden year so get a little bit excited, but not too excited. :)

Lets Talk About Kanye

written by: DAN

You know I’ve been not writing about anything and missing out on alot of things. My emails are piling sky high and I’ve only had the time and effort to glance at them every now and - which is far too little for my glob o music. Anyways, just because I haven’t written stuff here in awhile doesn’t mean I haven’t been listening to music… and there has been some good music out as of late. For now, lets talk about Kanye West.

Kanye West - Graduation Kanye West - Graduation
released September 11, 2007

I have listened to very little of Kanye West before this album. I had heard his stuff… I even think I’ve had one of his albums but never gave him a listen. Why? Well, I didn’t think it was all that good and I kept seeing him all over the press. He shot to stardom in like 2005 to know range and has taken advantage of the press the whole time. He’s done and said some stupid things but doesn’t everybody? So once I heard a little bit of his new album Graduation in my friends car I knew I had to get it. First and foremost, “Stronger” is a rad song. Once I heard Daft Punks sampling of Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger I knew I had to hear more. Most people don’t even know he sampled Daft Punks track which kind of sucks but that’s why I’m here to update you a little bit. After I listened to that like way too many times I decided to listen to the rest of the album. I came to the conclusion, “Wow, the whole album is really really good.”

From the other single “Good Life (featuring T-Pain)” to “Everything I Am,” “Homecoming (featuring Chris Martin),” “Big Brother,” “I Wonder.”… they are all good. I will say that in my opinion Kanye isn’t much of a raper per se. He and his dj lay down sick tracks but his rapping kind of lacks. I think this album is a huge success for his career and an overall really good album but if he can smooth out his rapping skills I think the next one will be even bigger.

i can’t decide

written by: DAN

I can’t decide what I want to do with this site RIGHT NOW. I have things that I want to do as time goes by… just as I’ve always wanted to do. But I want to make a nice change RIGHT NOW. Coming back from long vacations is always hard to do… especially when you work alot.

I haven’t wanted to neglect this blog, something had to give and it was this. Kinda sad since muiscglob is what I’ve always enjoyed writing. I was thinking this morning that amidst my redesign and other new things I already have 50% done I lost focus. It’s always best to get back to the basics, then onto other things.

With that, I’m getting back to my basics and trying to relieve myself of any thoughts or distractions. We’ll see how this turns out.

summer coming to an end

written by: DAN

yaaaa sooooo I’m on vacation for the rest of the month and when I get back it’s time to lock this place down. In the mean time my buddy Ben shot me this video, Super Mal featuring Luciana. She’s mega hot. It’s also a pretty sexy song.

iPod touch - iWant one

written by: DAN
iPod touch

I’ve never been one to get all that excited about whatever new ipod came out. It wasn’t that big of a deal when they went all color screen because I already had an iRiver and it was awesome. The iPod interface has always been the winner. Now things just got interesting. The iPod touch is basically the iPhone - with out the phone. Yeah, all the same features, even wifi web browsing and the multi-touch screen that is freaking awesome in so many ways.

I’m actually excited about it, now I could have an iPhone - without the expensive phone part and the hassle of switch carriers. Starts at $299 for the 8GB version which is right in the top of the sweet spot. $400 would be a little too much, and well anything like this type of product selling at $199 would sell soooo many. Anyways, check em out for yourself.
