New MusicGlob Feature: Share This!

written by: DAN

update 4/10/07 I got rid of the feature when I launched the new design. I see the need to share things with friends and social bookmarking sites but I just need to implement it correctly… so it’s out for now.

Today I added the feature to send any of these posts to your favorite social bookmarking site. Don’t know what I mean? I mean if you have a del.icio.us account or furl or maybe you just want to easily email a post to a friend so they can get some good mp3’s - it’s now way EASY.

Just click the “Share This” link next to the comments link and you are good to go. Just a couple more clicks and you’ve got it saved or emailed to a friend. Check it out and let me know what you think. This new year is going to be filled with ongoing additions to MusicGlob to make the site full of stuff for you to enjoy.

Big thanks to Alex Kings Share Icons project and Wordpress plugins.

Thom Yorke remixes

written by: DAN
Thom Yorke

Heres some exciting news today that The TripWire brought to my attention. There are now a couple of remixes available FOR FREE on theeraser.net How amazing is this? Quite since long ago I got a DMCA take down for tying to share, along with many others.

Here’s the catch, they are only available for a short time, (a week) so grab them while their hot and the servers can barely handle it. The songs are wicked crazy I really don’t know how to handle it… it’s probably best to just listen for yourself.

More Thom Yorke in the MusicGlob archives.

Not many new releases, yet AFI dvd is out

written by: DAN

I Heard a VoiceNormally today I might mention some new releases, yet today I’m not all that interested in any of them. Pretty slow release day in my opinion… except for maybe Ghostface Killah. All well, yet I did want to mention the release of the AFI I Heard a Voice DVD released today. It was filmed at their largest headlining show to date with 22 HD cameras which is pretty rediculous. I mention this because I was at that show, right to the left of the sound/camera booth on the floor. It was rediculous how many people were there and how over the top and huge it was. You can read my full review here.

This DVD is packed with 72 minutes of live footage. Perfect for all you AFI fans. Give yourself a Christmas present.

Taking the weekend off

written by: DAN

Sorry for the lack of updates everybody. I decided to go on a mini vacation that has turned into a nice mess. A couple hours after I get into San Diego I decide to go get some Wendys. On my way the whole left side of my car was wrecked. It was completely slow motion as I listened to the crunching of my new car. (Well a year and a couple months old) This was the second accident that I’ve had in the car - both not my fault. I seem to have rad luck at times.

All well. I’ve been trying to relax a bit yet decided to work a alot instead. Therefore I’ve had very little time spent taking care of my own things, instead clients. In light of all these things and more I have decided to take the weekend off. See ya Monday!

TV on the Radio

One of the biggest and most talked about bands this year is TV on the Radio. With the release of an album that everybody likes, I’d hope they’d be talked about. Give a listen to the AOL interface podcast with TV on the Radio.

They perform “Wash the Day,” “Young Liars,” and “Province.”

CNN on the indie scene

written by: DAN
indie CNN

Some of you may already know about this, but apparently CNN is now hip and indietastic. They even have a quiz to see how indie you are. I scored a 5 out of 10 my first try which is barely passing with an F. I’m not indie enough yet; soon though… very soon.

I never thought that CNN, the Cable News Network would get into something like this, I mean they are NEWS, right? I really don’t know how I feel about this whole thing but the quiz was kinda fun. Maybe they’ll get Aziz Ansari and friends to start reporting indie news.

Check out CNN’s indie scene.
To take the quiz go there and click under the “Under Cover” title.

lets not think

written by: DAN

Today is Thursday and there’s just soooo many things to write about, I guess.

For instance, the Pitchfork drinking game - covered on idolator and stereogum and orginally MW Blog. Definately the hot commodity today.

Another “hot” story today is the “Capitol Controversy.” Basically Capitol employees don’t like their CEO/President Andy Slater and say he’s doing a shit job. Can I say one thing, I don’t give a care. The only reason it’s worth a read is because it’s kinda funny. Such travesties within a huge label? Who knew. If you want to know more about what the employees think and core artists and blah blah blah, original article by Page Six. Also idolator and stereogum again.

So we all write about the same thing? I think I just did, now I’m part of “the machine.” By “we all” I’m simply referring to music bloggers in general even though there are many different types. I feel so used.

On another note, do any of you bloggers get a little pissed when you see something on a “more popular blog” that you wrote about way before they did? For instance, I read stereogum all the time and love it. Yet they will get more credit for posting David Hasselhoffs “jump in my car” video earlier this week YET I posted that up 3 months ago in July here. In fact here’s other HOFF videos to piss yourself too. I’m just jealous I guess, but with blogger fame comes all kinds of responsibility. WHAT, blogger fame? Yep, come on.. you know all the popular music blogs by name, and Pitchfork is god. Why can’t I be a XM radio host and be known by all at South By Southwest and get sent “cool new mp3 players.” Oh yeah, I know why I can’t - because my writing is shit (according to some) and “everything is too promotional.”

So who wrote the rules on blogging? Oh yeah, I think it’s write what you want to write, it’s a blog dammit. Now that I’m done with my tangents, go listen to The Presets

WOXY still alive

written by: DAN
WOXY.COM

I havn’t really talked about the subject of WOXY.com annoucing they were shutting their doors because it was simply too sad. Yet now the doors being thrown wide open. A bulletin posted on the frontpage of their website yesterday…

Could it be true? Does lightning strike the same place twice? Apparently it does. It is indeed the real deal — WOXY.com will be back on-the-air soon and better than ever! Seems like we’re proving ourselves to be master escape artists in eluding the icy depths of the deadpool. We’re ready to kick out the jams and hope you are, too. In the meantime, please do join us on the boards, and if you haven’t done so already, make sure you sign up for our email list to the right.

More details very, very soon…

- Mike, Shiv and Bryan Jay

Today is a good Friday indeed.
Thanks Tripwire.

Brandon Flowers JANE interview

written by: DAN
Brandon Flowers JANE interview

For all the Brandon Flowers and Killers fans, here is the clipping of his five question interview in October’s JANE magazine. I’ve had it in my inbox for a couple days now and forgot to share with you.
You can click the above photo to read yourself, or here is the five questions and Flowers answers.

The Same 5 Questions We Always Ask: Brandon Flowers JANE, October 2006
1: Where’s the craziest place you’ve ever had sex?
A rental car in Savannah, Georgia. In the middle of touring. I have a problem with flying, so instead of going home, my wife came to me and we rented a car and drove around. Just pulled off some dirt roads…

2: What word makes you cringe when you hear it?
Artist. Just shoot me if I ever refer to myself as an artist. Call me “rocket man” instead.

3: What do you think happens when you die?
I believe that we live on. Maybe this body dies, but I think you get a new one. I look at the trees and the sun, the air and the water. Everything is just too perfect, right down to our digestive system.

4: When was the last time you pulled and all-nighter?
Back in Longon, when we were finishing Sams’ Town. Normally, I like to sleep, but we stayed in the studio until 4 or 5 a.m. You’ve already gone that far, so you take it to the next level. We ended up in a dungeon. This guy we know has an incredible house with a room underneath it that was built hundreds of years ago. He made it into a wine cellar and a theater. We were hanging on the chandeliers.

5: If you were invisible for one day and could spy on a famous person, who would it be?
Tom Cruise? I love him, but he’s getting so strange and no one really knows what this Scientology thing is all about. So I would be the one to deliver the news.

—-
Kind of an odd set of questions, but hey I guess you can do that when you are a magazine. Who am I to judge?! There is also a bit more to read when you view the larger version of the scan. Head to the comments to read related articles.

There are bands that I always like to talk about - Mew is one of them. I saw them live almost two weeks ago and now it’s time for some more. Mew sat down with AOL Music for The Interface. They played a few songs and had a great interview. Who doesn’t like finding out new stuff about one of their favorite bands?
