The B-52’s FUNPLEX

written by: DAN
the b-52’s

I haven’t heard “The B-52’s” in years. Do you remember singing along to that one song right…? LOVE SHACK BABY YA LOVE SHACK or something like that. Anyways, I mildly shocked to find out they are coming out with a new album this month. “FUNPLEX” is due out March 25th and it’s being marketed as “the first record of the 21st century from The B-52s!” hahah awesome. Lets get one thing straight, I’m young, I remember listening to them when I was 15 or so… who knows. “Love Shack” practically always played on the radio and I watched the video a handful of times. I remember thinking they looked kinda old then so you know they’ve aged a bit more over the past 10 + years… but they’re back in the game! I say good for them and I’m sure they still have a large fan base.

Here’s a quote for good measure on the album,

“It’s loud, sexy rock and roll, with the beat pumped up to hot pink,” says guitarist Keith Strickland.

The only problem I have with that quote is the “sexy” part. I’m sorry that I’m not sorry but those chicks are old, and I’m not a cougar hunter.

One last note, there is a REMIX EP out that I’ll try to get my hands on soon featuring CSS, Peaches and Scissor Sisters.

iPod touch – iWant one

written by: DAN
iPod touch

I’ve never been one to get all that excited about whatever new ipod came out. It wasn’t that big of a deal when they went all color screen because I already had an iRiver and it was awesome. The iPod interface has always been the winner. Now things just got interesting. The iPod touch is basically the iPhone – with out the phone. Yeah, all the same features, even wifi web browsing and the multi-touch screen that is freaking awesome in so many ways.

I’m actually excited about it, now I could have an iPhone – without the expensive phone part and the hassle of switch carriers. Starts at $299 for the 8GB version which is right in the top of the sweet spot. $400 would be a little too much, and well anything like this type of product selling at $199 would sell soooo many. Anyways, check em out for yourself.

Current TV – The Daily Fix

written by: DAN

I just heard the Current TV has a new six times daily music show. It’s more or less the first music blog on tv. It’ll feature all kinds of stuff from people like you and me… you know “user generated content” such as camera phone pictures, photos, etc. It’s 90 seconds long and will be focusing on emerging (gotta love that word) artists from all genres from hip hop to rock and so on.

It first aired on Wednesday but I just heard about it today, any of you seen it? You’ll have to check to see if you have Current TV. If you have digital cable then most likely. I like to watch it every now and then to catch so good “pods” as they like to call them It’s one of the coolest TV stations that I’ve watched… probably because it’s aimed at the 18 – 34 year old market and I fall right in there.

thursday around the web

written by: DAN

I thought I’d post up some links to places around the internet today to give you something to do. These things are also interesting, at least to me.

These are just what I found this morning – MAYBE more to come.

You know Steve Albini right? He’s said to be many things, mostly known as the producer / recording engineer for indie music. Not the ‘indie’ that’s thrown around today per se but that’s a whole different topic. Over on the 2+2 Poker forums there is a thread of him answering pretty much any question you ask. It’s a long thread and I’ve read about a quarter of it. There is alot of cool to know info in there straight from the man himself. I think it’s funny he titled the thread “micro” celebrity. In the scene he’s huge but I suppose micro in the grand view of a “celebrity.”

Found via Waxy Links which I read everyday and I used to wander the 2+2 forums alot until I ran out of money and time to play poker.

my bad

written by: DAN

Sorry folks, I just noticed this site looks like butt in internet explorer and certain things are messed up like the freaking logo.

I hate you internet explorer and your stupid ways you treat certain graphics.

Fixed things for the time being… I’ll probably be messing with things all the time over the next couple weeks. At least this way you’ll have another new thing to look at.

Yet still, everybody please, browse happy.

Re-Recording of Sgt. Pepper

written by: DAN
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

This news is like a few days old yet still exciting nonetheless. The Beatles “Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” is being re-recorded to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary. Guess who’s gonna do it? All the cool kids of course. The Killers, Oasis, Razorlight, The Fratellis, Kaiser Chiefs and Travis have been reported. There isn’t really details on which song each artist is doing.

Honestly this is a bit weird to me. I mean who picked these bands to cover one of the biggest bands of all time to celebrate one of the most influential albums of all time. Something honestly just doesn’t sit right with me on this one. Anyways it’s still cool and I want to listen when it’s done. For more infomation of Sgt. Pepper – consult the book of knowledge.

Softlightes Interface

Softlightes Interface

Spinner has been doing all kinds of great stuff recently. One of them is The Interface podcasts. Great artists, great discussion. I have talked about the Softlightes in the past, here and here. These guys deserve all the attention they can get. “Say No! To Being Cool Say Yes! To Being Happy” has been my go-to album when I don’t know what I want to listen to. So I’m basically saying, I like it, you might too.

Check out The Interface here.

YESS, hello plug

written by: DAN

Welcome to MusicGlob v3 – “plug.” It’s still in pretty beta mode but I wanted to get it up and then adjust as necessary.

Enjoy.

I aplogize for the lack of updates and general funk around this blog. First musicglob broke, then I kinda fixed it to the state it’s in now. Then last week I was on Spring Break and didn’t pay any attention to this blog at all except for two posts. Pretty lame I know.

Well here’s to a new week and new set of classes and Spring. This week I may not be posting as much again BUT it’s because I’ll be devoting alot of my time to a new version of MusicGlob. I have ideas and thoughts and hopefully I can put them all into a reality.

Thanks for reading and please stick around because just like Andrew W.K has said, “When It’s Time to Party We Will Party Hard.” This week is party time and it will be hard – and most likely fast.

In the meantime catch up on everybody’s crazy adventures at SXSW 2007. I know there is some good stories out there.

Random News Item Today
Fast Company has an article on how “indie” bands like The Arcade Fire and The Shins are utilizing the iTunes music store. It’s a decent quick read.

BROKE!

written by: DAN

update 4/10/07 Pretty much everything is fixed cause I finally got the new design up and running.

Hey everybody – things are broken a bit all over MusicGlob right now.
I blame it on daylight savings time.

I will be fixing things this week yet probably won’t be posting that much.
The design will probably look odd but we’ll be backup and running soon.

Right now for sure broken:

  • Comments
  • Some link sections (which I have taken down)
  • Links to posts – shoooooot!
  • Random weird things showing up like the “No Categories” at the top of the page
  • Sidebar items that don’t want to work

Notables for February on March 1st

written by: DAN

Some of this news is actually 2 weeks old but that’s how I roll sometimes. At least you will know.

Throne of Blood label launch
Last month MusicGlob favorites The Rapture launched a new record label by the name of Throne of Blood. The label will release some singles and remixes off The Raptures lastest album Pieces of the People We Love. More coming soon I would expect.

New Queens of the Stone Age coming out this year.
The title is rumored to be Era Vulgaris and feature guests Julian Casablancas, Trent Reznor, Mark Lanegan, and Billy Gibbons. I don’t really get excited for new albums all that much anymore unless its a band that I listen to all the time, but you should if you want. Here’s a little behind the scenes video that poped up on the YouTube.

ALSO just a random tid bit but I’m happy to say I am a footnote on Wikipedia! Specifically for the entry on Mika. Somebody was kinda enough to put in my Mika Interview from awhile back. Shoot son.
