SXSW 08 - 763 mp3s reviewed

written by: DAN

Paul Ford over at The Morning News does not mess around when it comes getting reviews done. Best of all - his system is great, everything in six or so words and anywhere from one to five circles. My favorite is the one circle aka “Kill Me.” if you listen to alot of different music you totally feel that one.

There is lots of music to go over so dig right in: Six-Word Reviews of 763 SXSW Mp3s

CSS, The Cribs ‘Mens Needs’ Remix

written by: DAN

Cansei de Ser Sexy has just released their remix of The Cribs “Men’s Needs.” The video, which I wrote up on here sparked a totally unneeded amount of controversy getting people all up in arms. Ridiculous stuff, but hey bad press is still press.

Enough of that, this remix is awesome. Incredibly poppy and electronic is the CSS style. Enjoy suckas.

monday mixtape

written by: DAN
monday mixtape

I’m really scared of my email inbox because I keep letting it get bigger and bigger. I’m sorry to you who have sent me stuff. I’ve been so busy with other work that musicglob has taken the back seat this month.

I thought I’d throw together a mixtape of what I’ve been listening too lately.

I plan on getting back into the groove of things, keep on dropping by and leave some comments if you want.

Fujiya & Miyagi - Collarbone
Great Northern - The Middle
Cold War Kids - Hang Me Up To Dry
Lily Allen - Smile
Minus The Bear - Drilling (P.O.S REDO)

Feist - One Two Three Four, Van She Remix

written by: DAN
Feist

Well I thought I would pop my head back into my fricken blog. I don’t know really exactly what has come over me the past couple weeks that has made me stop blogging. A couple things I suppose. Mainly the fact that summer is here and I’d rather sit on a couch and waste time than in front of the computer. Yet it’s time to get back into it. So I thought this remix was a grand entrance. I found this from Arjan at arjanwrites.com. (I’ve read his site for a couple years, he always on the leading edge of pop and other good music.)

Van She one of my favorites since they popped up [check them out here] and Feist one of my new pleasures. The song “One Two Three Four” is a new single to be released in the UK off the album The Reminder. I think I’ll stop right here cause I was planning on writing about Feist soon. She’s great as I’m sure most of you already know.

Gavin Castleton

written by: DAN
Gavin Castleton

Gavin Castleton is quite the talented dude. Started music as a child writing his first song at age 7. Then up until now has released I don’t even know how many albums… like over 10. With his old band Gruvis Malt and then recently all his own stuff. There is basically nothing he can’t do. He’s worked with all kinds of amazing artists, just read his myspace page, you’ll see. Anyways, onto now. He just released the Hospital Hyms EP and has plans for three more EP’s this year. Wow, busy guy.

Here’s the deal on what Gavin’s style is as far as I’ve been reading… progressive rock / hip hop plus the folk and electronica. He’s a mix of everything you want to listen to right now. Make sure to grab the latest EP on iTunes.

Sea Wolf: You’re a Wolf video

written by: DAN
Sea Wolf You’re A Wolf Video Capture

Oh how I love thee DangerBird Records and Sea Wolf [Alex Brown Church from Irving] I saw about 70% of a Sea Wolf show the other week at the Explex. I was going to write something on it but the Tripwire beat me too it. Yet they did review a different show… all well. This song and video are perfect to me in many ways I can’t really describe. It just works. Beautiful cinematography and well the song is the song. It’s just plain good.

The EP Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low is out today so make sure you go and get yourself a copy. Or better yet, iTunes it.

For now, watch the video here, until I feel like posting the youtube video up.

More of The Sky Drops

written by: DAN
The Sky Drops

I just found another track that is out for sharing. Awhile ago this delightful shoegaze duo popped up on my music list. They immediatly caught my attention both because of the music and I really liked their promotional photos taken in the field. (see some here) It really just fit with the music for me.

They have a tour planned for April through July all over the place. Including some shows here in LA towards the end of the month for all the LA people to check ou. I’ll be trying to go see them and take some photos. Check their myspace for show details.

More Bang Gang

written by: DAN
Bang Gang Something Wrong

A couple more tracks were released for public consumption by Icelands Bang Gang. Their album Something Wrong came out on Tuesday and I can’t wait to get my hands on all of it. I first wrote on them back in November and since then everytime I listen to one of their songs there is always more. It’s pop but ambient, genius and surreal. I felt like I should throw in some of the terms I’ve been hearing about them. Honestly like I said before it’s dark, but not the kind of dark where you want to shrink into your own mind and die. It’s the kind of dark you want to listen to because it’s so good. I guess that makes sense. Whatever, I write dumb stuff alot.

I also threw in a Nik 7 remix of “Find What You Get” that was released a couple months ago.
