“After Hours” is the latest single off of We Are Scientists second full-length album – “Brain Thrust Mastery” which drops here in the U.S on Tuesday March 17. If you didn’t know W.A.S has been one of my favorite bands for awhile now. I can’t help it, sometimes it’s an addiction. The first time I heard the song it’s definitely W.A.S style, just a little more polished. You can definately tell they’ve learned alot from the exposure off their first album, “With Love and Squalor.”

As for this video, it is one of the many directed by Akiva of SNL Digital Short fame. Before that he, Jorma, and Andy made skits and music videos and posted on thelonelyisland.com. See all of Akiva’s music videos here.

Overall the video is good but I’m not as into it as previous videos such as Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt but it does have a hot chick in it and some fighting.

Grab some MP3′s and checkout what I’ve written on them in the musicglob archive.

As for the record, I haven’t yet fully constructed my opinion and will be writing on that soon. What do you guys think?

Today i feel like getting back to my younger years in music. San Diego band Noise Ratchet 5 years ago is what We Are Scientists are to me now. That just means I liked them alot and listen to their music all the time. The band disolved in April 2005 and became “The Life,” then after a couple months of that I think Joel Hosler (lead vocals) went solo. It was a sad time for me… I used to try and go to their shows all the time growing up in San Diego. Anyways, their music is rock laced with amazing vocals. Joel’s powerful vocals make the band especially in the softer melodic songs. Noise Ratchet may not have been if Joel didn’t pick up the vocal position instead of playing bass. Their amazing full length album Till We Have Faces was quite popular, at least around San Diego… then in 2003 they released the Noise Ratchet EP which was kind of a taste of what we all hoped was coming. Then sadly 2005 happened and they were no more.

Here is a few mp3′s off Till We Have Faces and the Noise Ratchet EP. Just so you all know, “My Day” is in my top 5 favorite songs up till now.

I had been looking forward to this past weekend for a few weeks. W.A.S has been one of my favorite bands of this year… just search.

I checked them out on Saturday September 30 at the Henry Fonda Music Box Theatre. First time I had been there and I was impressed. Sound wasn’t bad and the place was very close if not all the way sold out. Made it there just in time for The Spinto Band to play their last song and single “Oh Mandy.” Great pop song… then onto hanging out upstairs on the rooftop.

Art Brut went on next, instead of making my ears bleed by going inside I watched a big on the screen they had setup outside. I thought I liked Art Brut, then I realized that all the songs sound the same to me, so I passed and waited some more for W.A.S.

Then onto the good stuff… W.A.S went on at I think 11 ish and got us all dancing immediatly. They played a couple new songs that I was stoked on as well as all the good stuff from With Love and Squalor. They played about an hour long set which included The Spinto Band coming up on stage and doing some kind of choreographed dance. Keith and Chris were really into talking to the crowd this show, more so than the previous two times that I have seen them. They were really relaxed and just having a really good time. They played for about an hour then it was all done, yet overall it was an excellent show.

I was able to drop by Amoeba, sell some old cds and get a couple new ones that I have been wanting for awhile. I finally picked up the Phoenix album – “It’s Never Been Like That.” and Rock Kills Kid – “Are You Nervous?” They will both be on heavey rotation today and I am very pleased.

Onto the night, sorry no pictures. Started off at The Hammer for “Also, I like to Rock,” which has a been a free show every Thursday of this month. I went to see People In Planes [click for mp3] which I just missed as I got there, and then Shiny Toy Guns were up next. Shiny Toy Guns played an okaaayyy show. I think it was just okay because unfortunately they were having sound problems and also my mixed feelings about The Hammer overall. It was way packed, and right when I got there they had just ran out of beer. I’ll be talking about Shiny Toy Guns later.

After The Hammer, onto JAX’s Hell Ya! night at The Echo. Here’s were the night turned awesome in my book. Met all kinds of new people who are all awesome. To name a couple and say hello, Chantal from Morningwood, Lauren from Rocket, Garren, (two R’s? – sorry I kept messing up your name) Ryan, Evan, uhh uhhh and I’m sorry if I already forgot names of other people I met. You guys are all rad. Plus JAX and Becca I guess you guys are cool too. I found out, even though I wasn’t particularly fond of the red boots in my Rocket show review post, I found out from Lauren that “Rocket IS the red boots.”

What about the music? Glacier and Tally Hall I missed, got to see Polus and Audrye Sessions. Audrye Sessions played an amazing show, and Polus as well. Now it’s time to scramble and find their music to share with all of you.

I do have a song for the night,

I dig the Diggs. Was that incredibly corney? Yes, but their music is not. The Diggs are based in Brooklyn, New York, which just so happens to be where We Are Scientists; my favorite band are located. Does this mean that Brooklyn has a bunch of talented bands running around and releasing music? Well, I’ll say yes for now. Soon very soon I hope to get my hands on the full album so I can let you all know it’s just as good as these mp3′s. There is both soft indie, as well aa a dance-able track, “Stagg.”

I really like this video, I don’t know who the director is (if you know email me) but I really like the old 1920′s -40′s film style. There is always a level of comedy in W.A.S videos and this one is no exception. The ex-banjo player got me good. I’m glad YouTube exists so everybody won’t have a problem watching this.

Awesome time last Thursday at The Echo for Hell YA! This month Foreign Born headlined and played along with Cold War Kids and In Waves. All awesome sets packed inside the little echo. The crowd favorite seemed to be Cold War kids, it was absolutely PACKED on the floor! I hadn’t listened all that much to any of the bands that played, things have to change. Cold War Kids have a unique style that reminded me alot of The Arcade Fire who I saw last year at a super packed Troubadour show. They incorporated a wine bottle and don’t forget a cymbal on top of a crate to bang on.

Ariel Rechtshaid is the bassist for Foreign Born played as fill in bassist for a We Are Scientists show I went to in December. I talked to him that night and realized how talented he was when he told me he just learned their songs earlier that day. [From what I can remember clearly he said that... ] I saw that night that Foreign Born are a talented band and must be listened to. I suggest you pick up some music over at RockInsider.

Don’t forget about In Waves, I came half way through their set yet they made the night all that much better. I can’t find any of their music right now, somebody send me some? You can also check out their Myspace.

Now, go take a peak at some of the photos I took, clicky click here
