The Cribs: Men’s Needs video

written by: DAN

I dig The Cribs. For sure. I just haven’t been able to do any sharing with you on them. I felt this needed to be shared right now because it’s ridiculous and awesome. Awesome only because the video is, ridiculous because the video has been banned from MTV2 (before 9pm) deemed “too shocking.”

LAMMEEEEEE. Sure there is a naked chica running around but the violence for which it was banned doesn’t look real at all. Freaking cartoons are more gory than this video. Anyways, enjoy the video and catchy song.

The Cribs album Men’s Needs Women’s Needs hits stored July 17 and digitally May 22. (next week)
Is anybody a little confused on the title of the song and album? I’m no grammar or english expert but wouldn’t it read “Men is Needs Women is Needs.” Whatever. It’s cool nonetheless, and I’m a jackass. 5/20/07 update YES! I was corrected, now everything in the world is right and I can go on trying to figure out other things.

Sea Wolf: You’re a Wolf video

written by: DAN
Sea Wolf You’re A Wolf Video Capture

Oh how I love thee DangerBird Records and Sea Wolf [Alex Brown Church from Irving] I saw about 70% of a Sea Wolf show the other week at the Explex. I was going to write something on it but the Tripwire beat me too it. Yet they did review a different show… all well. This song and video are perfect to me in many ways I can’t really describe. It just works. Beautiful cinematography and well the song is the song. It’s just plain good.

The EP Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low is out today so make sure you go and get yourself a copy. Or better yet, iTunes it.

For now, watch the video here, until I feel like posting the youtube video up.

The Knife – Heartbeats video

written by: DAN

You will recognize this song because Jose Gonzales covered it and made it quite the popular song. Yet the thing is Swedish group The Knife made is years ago. A buddy of mine sent me the video a couple weeks ago and it’s such a perfect Saturday afternoon song. I kinda wish I’m out skating right now… maybe tomorrow. If you can, head outside, that’s what weekends are for right?

Elf Power

written by: DAN
Elf Power

This will serve as a dual purpose post. Both a live review and some mp3 sharing. Last night I caught the end Elf Power’s set. This troop from Athens, Georgia played a really fun show. Their stage presence was so comfortable it felt like a local band on a Thursday night. It was a pretty full house at Spaceland, everybody looking like they were having a great time. Elf Power’s unique ability to have 6 bodies and different instruments all creating dancable folk indie rock is what makes it all worth listening to and seeing them live. They hung out after the show for a bit and are all so nice and just seem to love what they’re doing. I like it, maybe you will too.

Shortish post today… it’s Friday and I’m mega tired. For more on Elf Power check out the Daytrotter Session.

The Hourly Radio

written by: DAN
The Hourly Radio

The Hourly Radio is brand new to me but they have been gaining buzz all throughout 2006 sitting on Rolling Stone’s Hot List and Billboard’s Best of 2006. You know why? It’s just good ol indiepop that everybody can love. Even though the tracks are about everything from love to frustration to ex-girlfriends. Yet all too perfect vocals and music to tap your foot too. Currently they are touring with The Shiny Toy Guns which is quite a style difference yet The Stars of Track and Field are also on the bill. These guys have an addictive sound that will blow them up.

Check out the video below for “Deaf Ears.” I was informed it’s an homage to the 1971 cult classic Harold & Maude. Yes it’s creepy but more-so awesome.

Digitalism

written by: DAN
Digitalism

I have been completely addicted to the German duo Digitalism since last week when I heard the track Pogo. I haven’t listened to one song so many times since I don’t even know when… Actually probably since Bloc Party’s Silent Alarm killed me with Banquet and Helicopter. Back to Digitalism. Their new album Idealism drops May 21st and should be quite awesome. It’s gonna be mad dancey. So get ready to hear it when you are out and about.

More words head over to Crackers United

Peter Toh Interview

written by: DAN
Peter Toh

Well what a weekend for myself. I have this habbit of not blogging on weekends, meh all well. Here’s some good stuff for Monday. I mentioned Peter Toh a couple weeks ago and was able to get one of the usual 5 question glob interviews. Peter has so much going for him and the potential to blow up, and most likely will this year. Just remember, you saw it here first. Just to prove my point, yet unrelated… notice how Mika has blown up? Check out the MusicGlob archives for all kinds of content.

Now on with the good stuff.

DAN: What are you currently working on?

PETER: I’m working on my first solo album called “wildlife.” it should have at least 12 to 14 new songs and feature more live instrumentation and better vocals. i’ve been training with a great singing coach named Craig Derry. I am also working on music with other artists like D.O.T. and Niki Jean.

DAN: What has inspired you lately?

PETER: The friends, fam, enemies, and artists in my life, brooklyn and NYC, current events such as racism and global warming, Tegan and Sara, The Clipse, Timbaland, Craig Derry my teacher, his other students who are all talented singers, movies like the prestige, and television shows like planet earth HD.

DAN: Ages is a beautiful video, could you tell me a little more of what went into it?

PETER: The hard part about making videos is coming up with an idea. The reason we picked the song in the first place is because it had stood the test of time the strongest. So it made it even harder to visualize since it has meant different things at different times to me over the years. Adam Schleichkorn (co-owner and founder of hidden track tv) and I came up with a bunch of whacky ideas including a lot of stop motion stuff to illustrate the simplistic but mysterious nature of the song. Our partner Randy Acker and friends the Sandbox Group put all of their resources into this to add another piece of content to their growing repetoir. We spent one day shooting this and it was edited a million times. It had the essence of what me and Adam thought up and the smoothness of the song and the sandbox really put their professional touch on it to bring it all together. all in all it was done with no budget, just a lot of believers so Adam and I thank them immensely.

DAN: What are some bands you are currently into?

PETER: I like Tegan and Sara. I don’t really know what’s going on in the rock music world tho. I am getting out of the engineering business so I plan on listening to more music now that I don’t do it for a living. Also my friend put me on to a band called Sparta that has a pretty solid album. Also the Deftones newest stuff is dope! There’s a great band in NYC called The Subway Band who plays latin versions of top 40 songs from any year.

DAN: Just for fun, last meal/book/song/tv show

PETER: Last meal would be sushi, “the meaning of it all” by Richard P. Feynman, “Remember a Time” by MJ, tv I like the funny shows

The Muggabears

written by: DAN
The Muggabears

Raw and dreamy are the first two words that come to my mind when describing Brooklyn’s The Muggabears. They have long been described as “fuzzed-out 90′s indie rock.” You will know what I mean when you take a listen but their latest album, Night Choreography is deep chilling rock. It’s noisy and intense, “off-the-cuff” as the band says and it works all too well. My first impressions were exactly this, “wow it’s nice to hears some noisy indie rock again.” It took me back a few years when I was listening to bands I can’t even remember now, but it was good. Not to say The Muggabears are a thing of the past, yet to put it cornily… a band of the present. Hows that for a sentence? Now go grab some mp3′s.

Mika: Love Today video

written by: DAN

I love today, I think. Maybe you do too. This video and song kinda makes me feel like I’ve been bludgeoned in the head by a mallet of pop, or something. I’m not so good at formulating sentences and thoughts all that much today. Thus resort to video stimulation.
