Great Northern - Home video

written by: DAN

Wow, quite the amazing video. Beautiful, mysterious and really complicated. Really well done for one of this years indie bands that blew up. It only fits, beautiful song has to have an equally beautiful video and that’s what this is.

The Lodger

written by: DAN
The Lodger

I’ve heard that these guys have quite the buzz surrounding them. This is probably due to the fantastic indie pop this trio makes. It’s quick and makes you feel good. The Lodger first started making music in 2004 and in 2006 set themselves up with a permanent lineup. Since then they just released their first full length Grown Ups in June and have been touring around the UK. Their path to bringing their pop music to the U.S has already begun as bloggers and everybody seems to love them. There just isn’t a reason not to.

**UPDATE** Alternate version

It seems as though I’m going a bit video crazy with the last three posts being videos but it’s all good. Mark Ronson videos are always awesome in so many ways. This song by the way is a cover of The Smiths “Stop Me If You Think You’ve Heard This One Before.” A good portion of the album is covers and some original stuff. I like some of these songs better than the originals. (please don’t hate me for saying that) Check out one of his other videos here.

Ronson’s new album Version hits stores today and you need to buy it. If you are into anything electronic/hip hop rock ish then you must get this. You could also listen to the whole album on his myspace right now if you want a little taste.

My Mini Album Review:
beats, melodies, and collaborations make this a perfect summer album for constant spinning.

The Lovemakers Whine & Dine video

written by: DAN

I’ve been a fan of The Lovemakers the moment I heard them. Last summer I was able to finally see them live and it was everytihng I thought and more. Of course the obvious shedding of clothes and everybody dancing alot. This video is fun but it’s missing one crucial element. Sorry Scott, I want Lisa in there. She needs to bring the usual sex appeal but hey I still like the video anyways. New EP Misery Loves Company out July 24, 2007.

They have alot of shows coming up and I highly recommend catching them live. It’s lots of fun, check out my live review here.

New London Fire has had quite the year loosing their tour van to a storm and making the new album. They released last month the video for “Somewhere In Between.” Yes, it’s a bit creepy but I really like it. It’s unique, it’s art. I wish the rest of the band stayed in the song for longer. Towards the end is a sweet part of the song. Overall pretty sad but what would music be if people didn’t put it out there. Enjoy.

People Noise

written by: DAN
People Noise

Well after only hearing a little bit of People Noise from Louisville KY I had to mention these two guys. People Noise is Zeke Buck, ex-guitarist from VHS or Beta on vocals, guitars, etc and Matt Johnson on the drums formerly from the band Boom Pip. Both of these guys have toured the world and extensive backgrounds in electronic music. It’s rock but what caught my attention was the melodic shoegaze pieces of the tracks that set me off into a mood I can only describe as floating. It’s the heavy guitar, I’m sure of it. Anyways, doesn’t really matter how I describe it, they need to be listened too. Checkout their myspace for a huge upcoming tour starting today and catch them live.

The Good Listeners

written by: DAN
The Good Listeners

I caught The Good Listeners live back in February before I knew anything about them. I was in luck to find another great band. Over the course of the last 5 months I was able to get a hold of the album and love it. Its a simply beautiful album. Complete with ambient forest sounds of birds and wind… hence Crane Point Lodge. The amazing thing is, Nathan Khyber and Clark Stiles started The Good Listeners in spring of 2006. They are a bit of a young band yet already have two albums under their belt. Their first LP, Ojai was a track a day in 10 days. If that doesn’t scream talent I don’t know what does. Their full length Crane Point Lodge is just too good not to listen. If I was to describe it in a couple words I would say organic, smooth, pop with the twang of blues and country. I’m never good at describing music and albums as music journalists do because I’m not one. The album just has a great feel to it… makes me want to listen to it on repeat on a road trip. Great summer music.

CSS, The Cribs ‘Mens Needs’ Remix

written by: DAN

Cansei de Ser Sexy has just released their remix of The Cribs “Men’s Needs.” The video, which I wrote up on here sparked a totally unneeded amount of controversy getting people all up in arms. Ridiculous stuff, but hey bad press is still press.

Enough of that, this remix is awesome. Incredibly poppy and electronic is the CSS style. Enjoy suckas.

roxy show monsters are waiting

Thursday night show…

Monsters Are Waiting, Scientific Phenomenalist David Lovering (of The Pixies), Mellowdrone (acoustic), Gliss, Meho Plaza
All Ages
$13 (i think)
The Roxy

I never wrote about the excellent Monsters Are Waiting but I’m a fan of The Pixies and Mellowdrone. I just heard of Gliss from a friend of mine asking me if I had heard of them. Just heard of the name and nothing else… and Meho Plaza is new to me as well. Just a good all around lineup.

Digitalim - Pogo video

written by: DAN

I have been obsessed with Digitalism for the past couple month eagerly awaiting the release of their cd. Well it’s been out and I finally have it. I’ll be honest, it hasn’t struck me as monkey balls amazing yet but it is quite amazing by my likes. Grows on me with every listen. A good portion of it is just hard electronica - you know the stuff you dance to in hip clubs. “Pogo” was of course the song that sucked me in. I’ve listened to that one song over 10 times in a row… while driving, fast. It made me do it. One of my countless weekend trips down to San Diego. Anyways, the video is awesome. It really inspired me as this song does all the time. Makes me want to go do stuff except here I am writing a blog entry. It’s all good.

I gotta give a thanks to Heather at Hell Ya! because it was on the mix cd she gave me that I first heard them. You are awesome.

I plan on getting back into the groove of things, keep on dropping by and leave some comments if you want.

Feist - One Two Three Four, Van She Remix

written by: DAN
Feist

Well I thought I would pop my head back into my fricken blog. I don’t know really exactly what has come over me the past couple weeks that has made me stop blogging. A couple things I suppose. Mainly the fact that summer is here and I’d rather sit on a couch and waste time than in front of the computer. Yet it’s time to get back into it. So I thought this remix was a grand entrance. I found this from Arjan at arjanwrites.com. (I’ve read his site for a couple years, he always on the leading edge of pop and other good music.)

Van She one of my favorites since they popped up [check them out here] and Feist one of my new pleasures. The song “One Two Three Four” is a new single to be released in the UK off the album The Reminder. I think I’ll stop right here cause I was planning on writing about Feist soon. She’s great as I’m sure most of you already know.
