Mew - Live at the Troubadour

I saw Mew last night, and what a great show it was. I wasn’t able to snap any photos cause well I’m a dude and can’t really hide a larger camera in my bag or clothes… so I had to leave it in the car. I guess you win some, and you loose some. First off, if you havn’t heard of Mew, go HERE and HERE. They are in my top list of favorite bands. Their music is melodic and ambient, very beautiful rock. Live, it was no different. They were the only band of the night, playing their first LA show - sold out. It was packed in the little Troubadour, reminded me of when I saw the The Arcade Fire play a rediculously amazing sold out show a year or two ago.

They played about and hour long set after the two DJ’s moved their stuff from the middle of the stage. (That’s a whole different story in itself) They started out with new(er) stuff from And the Glass Handed Kites. I say new(er) because it’s new to the U.S folk who are new fans. That album has actually been out around a year over seas. The first four songs played were simply amazing. Started with “Special,” then “The Zookeepers Boy,” “Am I Wry, No,” and “156.” The last two are off of Frengers which is their previous album and equally awesome. There was some trippy visualizations going on behind them with little dolls with long grass hair growing out of them and roots growing; along with Giraffes and baby heads and yeah it was a trip. Everything blended perfectly as they swooped us all up into their musical world and took us for an amazing ride.
