Van She was rad enought to answer a few questions for a mini interview. Australia is getting higher and higher in my favorite music list as well as a place I really need to go to. Thanks to all the guys in Van She. Anybody want to send me on a trip to Australia?
DAN: What are influences of this band? Musically and whatever else?
Van She: Anything french, movies, techno, rock music, italian food, music gear, synths and others, sex, love, hate, friends, books, blog sites, our record label, ilicit stuff, pod wars
DAN: The video for ‘Kelly’ is awesome, could you tell me more about how you guys were involved and the overall experience?
Van She: Well we were hanging out with the director who used to dj at a few parties we played at, at the time and loved his style, so when the opportunity came up he had this script about young girls and there first experiences in life which is kinda what Kelly is about. So he said why dont we pretend to be this serious pop band on an 80s top of the pops show which will want to make the girls feel like kissing. It actually turned out better then we expected.
DAN: How did the name Van She come about and all of you in the band?
Van She: Well Matt and I met at a BBQ I had and half way through the night he started putting on all this punk-funk like ESG, Konk and bits of Roxy music, and I was who the hell does this dude think he is, but after a couple of tracks I was so into the music we decided to have a jam, where we made our first track in a day with a LINN 9000 we borrowed from our friend. We originally called the band Van Schie which is Matts last name, which in Dutch means from the river Schie. But everybody started calling it his band so we changed it to Van She whcih
DAN: What are your favorite bands right now?
Van She: LCD SoundSystem, Rapture, The Like, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, EdBanger Records, Sebastion Tellier, Steeple Remove, Alan Braxe( I think thats the right name ) … just a few
DAN: What other Australian bands should we all know about? Side note, you guys like The Presets from Sydney?
Van She: Yeah we are good friends with Julian and Kim, there music is great ! There are heaps … Valentinos, Teenager and Tennagers in Tokyo, Bag Raiders, Riot in Belgium, The Ghosts …
DAN: I’ve heard that Australians party like crazy, any stories you could tell?
