Then after the show head to vspot.vh1.com for some more good stuff.

July 4th tunes

July 4 2006 - beer bbq and music

Onto the July 4th weekend, bar-b-que, booze, and music. Not in that order, usually all mixed together. I thought I’d mention some good weekend music and a few mp3’s for your enjoyment.

In my opinion a bbq is pretty much nothing without classic rock. I’m talking Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and so on. Find your record player and bust out the record collection for your friends to gawk over. If you are someplace hard to maintain a record player, make sure you fill up your ipod or whatever player with some good classic rock to eat your hamburger and drink your beer to.

Now onto a few summertime songs. Basically my theme is dancable and fun.
Phoenix
Phoenix is an amazing band on so many levels, music that catches your attention and can dance to.
Phoenix – Napoleon Says
Phoenix – If I Ever Feel Better

The Lovemakers
Go get tracks and words HERE.

Men, Women and Children
Get a couple songs here

Birdmonster
Less dance and more just chilling music HERE.

The Presets
I’m happy this duo are getting some more coverage, tracks HERE.

The Shore
More chilling music HERE.

The list could of course go on and on and even start mentioning 90’s bands and all the other perfect weekend music.
If you get a chance, do something as constructive as this:

The Gaskets

Gaskets

The dudes in the Gaskets make some perfect summertime music. It’s catchy, it’s dancable, it’s fun and awesome. From Richmond Virginia they released an album not too long ago by the name “Loose Change” Nice review right here. What else can I really say… uhh … it’s radical electronica rock.

David Ford “State Of The Union” video

written by: DAN

This video is my first exposure to David Ford and I am simply amazed. This video in a mathematical equation: (we all hate math but this is good)

Extremely talented musicion + passionate lyrics + indie film making = one of the best music videos I have seen this year.

You must watch this video… yes it is long but right around 6 minutes crazy things start happening and he keeps picking up new instruments and singing his heart out. His music and style remids me a bit of David Gray and James Blunt. Moreso David Gray if you have seen some of his “in the making” footage for his latest albumLife In Slow Motion. With out a doubt I see David Fords music spreading across the globe.

Short Bits For The Bored

written by: DAN

62806 weather Tell me if that makes sense. A high of 96 with lighting?!? It’s super hot out here in the Inland Empire, specifically Pomona/Walnut/West Covina area. Sooo music for today? How about a couple songs that I am currently really enjoying.

First off, Damone. This chica can rock and I’m sure most of you have heard this song. It’s catchy, it’s rock, it’s awesome.

Damone – Out Here All Night

How about a remix of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Y-Control.” This song has aways been the best for me on the Fever To Tell album. The new ish Show Your Bones is good.. but ehhhh I still like “Fever to Tell” more. Thanks for the track Eclectroniclash.

Then onto some LA rock by the ever popular Rock Kills Kid.I heard on Sirius this morning that some journalist said their name was too long. The DJ disagreed, as do I. Head to their myspace to listen to thier single “Paralyzed,” and download “Hide Away” here.

Then today I found out that Tijuana is an emerging art spot?!? huh? Well, it sounds cool enough even for one of the dirtiest cities I’ve ever been to, and I can say that cause I’m for San Diego and been there many a time. Just head down a few more miles to Rosarito or farther Ensanada. It gets better the farther you go down on the coats. Read the article here

As Fast As

written by: DAN
As Fast As

Since I first heard about As Fast As a month or so ago I seem to hear about them more and more. I’ve heard them at least once a week on Sirius and they even got a sick setup touring with Morningwood and The Lashes. They have some incredibly catchy songs like “Florida Sunshine.” They have hints of classic rock mixed with new indie rock sounds. For instance, it would be awesome to have them playing super loud off of vinyl on a Saturday bar-b-que. At least thats how I can mazimize my enjoyment of this band. Thanks to bio’s I can cut and paste things like this to give you a better idea of the band.

2 cups The Beatles
1 cup The Who
1 cup Elvis Costello and the Attractions
1/2 cup Led Zeppelin
1 tablespoon Weezer
1/2 cup The Kinks
1 teaspoon Stevie Wonder
a dash of mid 90’s Seattle sensibility
1 case premium beer
4 wiseasses from the sticks

bake for 1 1/2 years
VOILA!
AS FAST AS!

… and there ya have it.

Big Black- Songs About Fucking

written by: randall

Ok here is an album that has been overlooked since it’s release in 1987. Big Black’s-Songs About Fucking has been an instant classic in hard music since the day it was released. The album opens up with the song “The Power of Independent Trucking” which is one of the hardests songs drilled right at you. This album is Big Black’s finest. Hard to imagine that a drum machine, a guitar and bass can be this tough. This album has been a huge influence since it’s release. Such bands as NIN and Nirvana have taken this album as one of their greatest influences. This album is dry, raw, and it will kick your ass. If you want to understand hard music buy this album.

The Lovemakers

written by: DAN
The Lovemakers

This morning I pull up the music library and The Lovemakers called my name. The Lovemakers make sexually energized dance rock. It’s awesome. “Shake That Ass” is a fun song, and especially the remix “Shake That 50 Cent (50 Cent vs. The Lovemakers)” Their latest album Times of Romance came out last year and is filled with all kinds of good tracks. They are currently out playing some shows here on the west coast and from what I’ve heard they are a band to see live. Even their bio has a bit…

Their live show was recently described by a (possibly intoxicated) audience member in their native Oakland, California as “a pink Ferrari driving through a mountain of coke.” [source]

Just for that quote, I really want to see them live.

Make sure to head over to their audio visual page for sexy videos and pictures.

The Golden Republic

written by: DAN
The Golden Republic

Just recently I was listening to party shuffle in iTunes, and I landed on an awesome rock song by The Golden Republic. I don’t know how I got this song in the first place, yet I love it and this band. They market themselves as “indie-meets-glam.” That works for me, but when I think of glam I think of bands like Motley Crue and the like, which is not The Golden Republic. Formerly known as The People they released an album, then signed by Astralwerks in 2004 and released an EP back in September. They have a good ol rock sound that we all need every once in awhile.

Indie Damn It

written by: randall

Of course I need to title this under cool stuff. Now everyone is indie. Look on myspace it’s pretty funny how people automatically think you score cool points if you claim indie. I think I am going to start call myself industry now for the hell of it. Recently I checked myspace, sadly enough. Here are the names of some of the top 20 artist’s in the indie category: Paul Wall, Yin Yang Twins, Dashboard, Slip Knot, and The Lost Prophets. Pretty indie shit if you ask me. I offically declared the indie animal of the year. It is a unicorn. Remember kids sing about unicorns , wear shirts with them on it, and even say the word as you are sniffing a line of cocaine in your vintage shirt, you will fit right in your local art school. yes.

The Futureheads – News and Tributes

written by: DAN
The Futureheads

New album and tracks by The Futureheads! The track “Skip To The End” is quite catchy, and by catchy it’s stuck in my head. The Futureheads aren’t new to the UK (their home) or US soil, yet they are new to Startime / Vagrant records.
