The Layaways

written by: DAN
The Layaways

The Layaways, I Like em! They have put out a couple albums and I’ve listened to a few tracks off of each and I like their style and sound. Lately I’ve been into some slower stuff, and this is right in there. The only thing I was a little frusterated about is that I cannot seem to find any photos of the band. If you know of any, let me know so I can throw it in this post. I like to see what a band looks like, just cause it adds some personality to their music.

Dirty Little Secret – Live Hell Ya!

written by: DAN

I went to JAX’s (RockInsider.com) Hell Ya! party last night and saw Dirty Little Secret which was rad. High point besides the rad music was for sure the awesome video’s on the projector screen behind them They were mixing live footage with other stock footage to create a sweet multimedia presentation.

Spaceland is a pretty awesome place, last night was my first time going and there is so many things to mention besides the music. Met and talked with LA music blogger JAX from RockInsider which was way goodtimes and I look forward to more. Oo Oo, also met Heather from Listing Ship (Get some MP3’s over here!) and I’ll be writing about them soon, great band and Heather is so nice. Man oh Man, lots of fun and more to come! It’s quite the busy day, and the weekend coming up!

Film School

written by: DAN
Film School

I like Film School. Cool band with a couple albums out based San Francisco. I actually just found this band this morning, well sorta morning and it was perfect sounds. Since it was so perfect I couldn’t help but post them up and spread the goodness of this softish indie, psychedelic rock. I do have to confess, Finch was on my playlist next so I then got kinda rowdy, but then went back to Film School. You can read their bio and some more info here!

Elbow

written by: DAN
Elbow

Awesome band out of Manchester, United Kingdom who have been playing for fourteen years. That’s awesome in itself, then you give them a listen and think so much better. Songs like “Forget Myself,” and “Great Expectations” are amazing and just wonderful to listen to. I’ve just added Leaders of the Free World on my list to buy and listen for awhile. Problem is I’m already listening to a couple other cd’s that I’ll let you guys know about soon.

Ok Go. Oh No

written by: DAN
Oh No

Ok Go Oh No
I first heard about these guys a little bit before their “A Million Ways” dance video spread all over the internet. I thought it was one of the raddest things I had ever seen. Then, I totally forgot about them until I just picked up Oh No, after hearing “A Million Ways,” on satellite radio. I really like this rock album, for many reasons. First off because it’s rock, and the some of the songs are catchy and just fun to listen to. This isn’t really a review or anything, I’m just saying Oh No is a good listen, so do it!

Besides it being a good album, and they also have a some good video’s to watch. Check them out

Taking Back Sunday new album soon

written by: DAN
Taking Back Sunday in studio

Taking Back Sunday has been out in Los Angeles recording their third album, Louder Now, which is their major label debut. Now that I just heard about this I’m looking forward to this new one. I really liked their last album, Where You Want To Be and also their first Tell All Your Friends, which turned me onto them. When I first bought Where You Want To Be I listened to it straight a couple weeks, hopefully this one will be the same.

The Clientele

written by: DAN
Strange Geometry

I don’t know how I’ve missed these guys, but I like em. They are a british band, which always seems cool to me. I love the calm rock indie psychedelic sounds. I also like how “clientele” rolls off the tongue when you say it. Cool band names usually win me over. Butt hole surfers anyone? yeah, i’m kidding…

Panic! At the Disco Live

written by: DAN
Panic! At the Disco

I was able to see Panic! Friday night and it was quite a fun night. They are for sure a fun group of guys and put on good show. I was impressed mostly with the drummer (Spencer) and bassist (Brent) for their constant rocking out. Lead singer/guitarist (Brendon) and guitarist (Ryan) held the stage and crowd quite well. On to the crowd… well that was the only thing that kinda turned me off for the show, the fact that the average age and height was 16 and 5′ 3.” Yet I didn’t let that keep me from having a good time.

They are well dressed dudes and are exploding all over the place. They are selling out shows and have a pretty big upcoming House of Blues tour with The Academy Is, along with Acceptance and HelloGoodBye.

Just in case you want some more Panic! At the Disco, I wrote about them a little while ago, clicky here to read.

Dirty Little Secret

written by: DAN

I heard about Dirty Little Secret just a while ago, and never got around to listening to their music till recently. I really like the free stuff they have available on their website. It’s really awesome when bands have a couple free mp3’s, then it’s even better when they are good songs. I wish I would have heard of them even longer ago so I could see them play with bands like, The Bravery, Beck, The Moving Units and others according to their secret bio. Give them a listen, and they are also playing some shows in LA soon.

The Light Footwork – One State, Two State

written by: DAN
The Light Footwork - One State, Two State

On Tuesday The Light Footwork released their debut album, “One State Two State.” I enjoy this soft indie rock album, especially the little keyboard mix-ins. At times alot of the tracks sound the same to me. I like songs that grab my attention, and don’t get me wrong there are a few on this album. One of those being the “single” sorta is “Coastlines Are Landmines,” and also the other two free songs “The Art of Everyday Communication Part 1,” and “Rapture Good, Rupture Bad.” The vocals in “The Art of Everyday Communication Pt. 1″ are wonderfully mixed with a catchy tune.

Overall a good debut album. I don’t really like writing long reviews, so I’ll like you to You Ain’t No Picasso if you wish to read further.

The Lashes – Live

written by: DAN

Quite the eventful night. Drive out to Hollywood, get rear ended in my 4 month old car while on my way to see The Lashes at the key club. That’s okay for now, just stuff I have to deal with… the rest of the night was good good. Saw a nice little intimate show with The Lashes which I quite enjoyed. I liked them alot better than The Divorce who went on after them.

I was a little hungry so we hit up Pinks hotdogs, which was actually my first time going there. Not like the best hotdog I’ve ever had, yet a good hotdog nonetheless. Then off to Cinespace for Tuesdays at Cinespace. It always seems to be a good time. I saw another band play there… I don’t know what they are called so if you do let me know. I liked their sound despite the fact they play a small drum kit and two keyboards and a singer. Gotta love the trio’s. After that it’s basically just dancing all the rest of this night with Steve Aoki (last Tuesday, The Subways show was his birthday) mixing some awesome music.

Despite the car accident, was a way fun night.
Now onto TONIGHT!
Hipster Heaven from 8 – 12 at the ACME, part of the Paper Project LA.
