We Are Scientists, Dirty Little Secret Live

written by: DAN
Keith, We Are Scientists

Oh man another amazing Tuesday @ Cinespace. This time We Are Scientists showed up and Dirty Little Secret played an awesome once in a lifetime acoustic show. They just kept adding people and instruments to create a really unique and great performance. Everybody minus Brian Monte (drums) who was in Chicago played really well, the crows really liked it. Huge thanks to James (bass) for getting me on the RSVP list and it was nice talking with him and the band later in the night. Overall good good times.

What about We Are Scientists? Ya, my favorite band right now, well since October when I first really payed attention to them. (I watched their music videos on the Lonely Island all the time straight for days) I can’t even think of anything to say, it was rad. I felt like I was one of the few people who knew the songs, yet that will all change very soon. Their usual bassist Chris was out, yet equally awesome guest bassist, Ariel Rechtshaid; I talked to after the show did an awesome job. Just amazing shows; Tuesdays seem to be the best days of the week.

I actually took some pictures this time, more photos when you click (more…)

Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!

written by: DAN

VISE!! (Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!) kinda disappeared. There is no news on their website past August 4, 2004. They only released one self titled album way back in 2004. That album didn’t get a good review at all. I can totally understand what Pitchfork was talking about, yet I wanted to post this music up just because it’s an occasional nice listen. To tell you the truth, Trunk of My Car gets utterly annoying to me. Sometimes the organ needs some creativity, but hey… I’m done with the negativity. Give them a listen and decide for yourself. Let me know your favorite song in the comments if you have the album so I can post it up and share with others.

She Wants Revenge

written by: DAN
She Wants Revenge

I picked up the She Wants Revenge debut self titled album off of iTunes a week or two ago the day I heard These Things on Satellite Radio. Then just yesterday I heard them on the local San Diego rock station, 91X. I really like this album for it’s indie experimental rock that I just got hooked on. I will say that when I first heard them I was reminded of Joy Division and Interpol like everybody else has said, but hey I like them too. Some of my favorite songs on the album such as These Things, Sister, Broken Promises for Broken Hearts, Tear You Apart, and Out of Control have edgy sexy lyrics. Overall I think it is a really well put together album, yet I’m sure they can do better as time goes on, yet I’ve been playing this all the time. You can of course dance to a few songs, yet I heard from JAX that the lead singer doesn’t do much dancing… I’ll have to see for myself sometime soon.

Check out this sexy artwork too:

The Comas

written by: DAN
The Comas

The Comas are from Carrboro, NC, and are quite the powerful indie group. I only have a few pieces of music by them right now, yet I will share. I mainly want to say that a couple days ago (Dec. 16) Vagrant Records announced that they had signed them onto the family with other bands such as Dashboard Confessional, Senses Fail, The Eels, Alkaline Trio, Paul Westerberg and others. I must say I like this group and will be writing more about them as time goes by. Rich Egan, Vagrant President is happy to have them…

“The Comas represent everything that is right about indie rock and we couldn’t be prouder to add them to the Vagrant family.”

They have a full length albume due out Summer 2006. They also have lots of audio and a cool video for Invisible Drugs on their website in the media section.

The Chronic of Narnia

written by: DAN
SNL - Chronic of Narnia Rap

With all my mentions of the Dudes of the Lonely Island in my previous post about We Are Scientists I forgot to mention that you can see Andy in an SNL skit that is just super popular around the internet. If you watch the Dudes stuff before SNL, you totally realize they wrote and directed it along with Chris Parnell. Anyways, watch the video, it’s hilarious.

Wolf Parade

I can’t think of anybody who hasn’t already talked about Wolf Parade, yet I don’t care, I want to talk about them too! I do cause you can’t help but like songs like I’ll Believe in Anything, and Shine A Light. I also am just in the mood to like Canada, and it just so happens they are from Canada! The rest of their second and latest album, Apologies to the Queen Mary is a good listen aswell.

We Are Scientists – It’s a Hit video

written by: DAN
We Are Scientists

Stereogum has a streaming little preview of a new video by one of my favorite bands of the year, We Are Scientists. I have intentionally not written about them cause if I did, it would be too many posts and I would end up making you sick of them. By the way, “It’s a Hit,” is due to be the next single, and one of my four favorite tracks on the album With Love and Squalor which is you guessed it, one of my favorite albums of the year. Oh yeah, and I saw them at a tiny Troubadour show that just made my night thinking about it.

While I’m talking about it, I found about We Are Scientists many moons ago while browsing The Lonely Island which is three dudes who make hilarious videos. They were recently picked up by SNL and moved out to New York. Watch their videos, they are awesome.
